Old York Historical Society
York, ME

The Old York Historical Society was founded one hundred years ago to preserve the history and artifacts of York, Maine – America’s first chartered city (1632) and one of New England’s earliest colonial settlements. Offering thirty-seven period room settings and several galleries housed throughout seven historic museum buildings, Old York showcases a wealth of early New England art, architecture, and decorative arts. The exhibits focus on the stories of southern Maine’s men, women, and children and the world they created and lived in from the earliest settlement in the 1600s to the present day. The open campus of this remarkable museum is spread out in in York center and along the York River. Check the web site for a full schedule of events, children’s activities, exhibits and demonstrations. GOseacoast..com features separate pages on many of the buildings including the Old Gaol, the Marshall Gallery, the Perkins House, John Hancock Wharf, Jeffords Tavern, the Old Schoolhouse and the Emerson Wilcox House.
