Boon Island Lighthouse

Ten miles off the coast of Southern Maine, Boon Island is a barren spot, hard to access by boat. This 133-foot tower is not accessible to the public, It was built in 1852 abd autmated in 1980, and is currently leased by the US Coast Guard to the American Lighthouse Foundation in Wells, ME.

DIRECTIONS: 10 miles off the coast of Maine, best seen from a tour boat. It is perhaps best known from the novel Boon Island by Kenneth Roberts about the survivors of a 1710 shipwreck driven to cannibalism on the isolated isle.
