Langley Boardman

Died 1831. Considered among the major Federalist-era cabinet makers, Langley Boardman is regaining attention today. His work is now highly esteemed and collectible as an example of Piscataqua-region furniture makers. Modern craftsman continue to emulate his style. There are many examples of his work among the furniture at the Rundlett-May House on Middle Street in Portsmouth and other local historic houses. Boardman lived in Portsmouth after leaving Salem at the age of seventeen. His portrait can be seen at the Portsmouth Historical Society. A pair of his chairs recently sold at auction for $30,000.
