Woodbury Langdon

When the American Revolution broke out, wealthy, haughty Woodbury Langdon was in London trying to prevent a major financial loss. Although his brother John was a key player early in the Revolution, no one was sure if Woodbury was a patriot or a Tory. He ended up serving on the legislature and a Supreme Court judge, but was often absent. He preferred making money. Although hard to get along with, Woodbury Langdon apparently impressed people as forthright and intelligent, and he served in a number of posts. His brick mansion on State Street burned, but a portion of it is incorporated into the Rockingham Hotlel that sits on the site today.
