John Lane's Ogunquit Playhouse, one of Southern Maine's most important cultural landmarks, is entering its 70th season. Opening in 1933, the work and vision of Walter and Maude Hardwig brought an outstanding, star-studded performing arts company to Ogunquit. Continuing this tradition for almost five decades, John Lane, owner and producer of the Playhouse until 1997, sought to provide his audience with the finest professional theatre in our region. In doing so, he successfully placed the playhouse on the national cultural map. The Ogunquit Playhouse Foundation, formed in 1995, is now the proud owner and trustee of the Playhouse.
Serving the community that has helped to preserve the Playhouse is a responsibility in which the Foundation takes pride. The Playhouse maintains its past tradition of presenting the best available performers, plays, Sunday concerts and special events and will expand to reach an ever-widening audience of community residents and summer visitors. Includes Sunday concert series and Kids Korner summer productions and events.
