York Cliff Walk
York, ME

Photo courtesy of J. Dennis Robinson.

A GOseacoast “out of the way” favorite, the Cliff walk is a rocky path that wanders between the fine homes of York and the sea and cliffs. Often ravaged by the elements, the public path has been partially rebuilt with steel railings and concrete steps that look out onto the surf of York Harbor Beach and Stage Neck. The path begins at the beach and passes the Fisherman’s Memorial (see separate listings). The pedestrian path has strict rues including no dogs, a 6pm closing, and a $1000 fine for littering. Warnings announce that visitors pass at their own risk and the path is difficult in spots. Don’t wear sandals or bare feet and beware of slippery rocks in wet weather. Visitors are required to stay on the path at all times. The survival of this popular walkway depends on the generosity of those who live in the homes along the coast, the town of York and the behavior of those using the trail. The trail is only partially restored at the moment.
